An investment in improving quality has the potential to yield a higher rate of return than any other investment a healthcare organization can make. Payers and employers in the future will contract with those healthcare organizations that not only charge appropriate amounts for delivering care but also can demonstrate the quality--i.e., value--of the care they are providing. Improving the quality of care can improve both a hospital's fiscal performance and its market share.
