This article summarizes the information collected on morbidity due to infectious disease in the UK between 1967 and 1983 by the Weekly Returns Service (WRS) of the Royal College of General Practitioners. The population data base used for this purpose now exceeds 200,000 and 40 general practices and 106 principals are included. Where comparisons are available incidence rates derived from the WRS are higher than those obtained in official notifications.
