The article describes the possibilities of planning of the health care providers' network enabled by the use of information technology. The cornerstone of such planning is the development and establishment of a quality database on health care providers, health care professionals and their employment statuses.
Based on the analysis of information needs, a new database was developed for various users in health care delivery as well as for those in health insurance. The method of information engineering was used in the standard four steps of the information system construction, while the whole project was run in accordance with the principles of two internationally approved project management methods. Special attention was dedicated to a careful analysis of the users' requirements and we believe the latter to be fulfilled to a very large degree.
The new NHCPD is a relational database which is set up in two important state institutions, the National Institute of Public Health and the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia. The former is responsible for updating the database, while the latter is responsible for the technological side as well as for the implementation of data security and protection. NHCPD will be inter linked with several other existing applications in the area of health care, public health and health insurance. Several important state institutions and professional chambers are users of the database in question, thus integrating various aspects of the health care system in Slovenia.
The setting up of a completely revised health care providers' database in Slovenia is an important step in the development of a uniform and integrated information system that would support top decision-making processes at the national level.

基于对信息需求的分析，为医疗服务提供方以及医疗保险领域的各类用户开发了一个新数据库。在信息系统建设的标准四个步骤中采用了信息工程方法，而整个项目按照两种国际认可的项目管理方法的原则运行。特别关注对用户需求的仔细分析，我们认为用户需求在很大程度上得到了满足。
新的国家医疗服务提供者数据库（NHCPD）是一个关系型数据库，在两个重要的国家机构——斯洛文尼亚国家公共卫生研究所和健康保险研究所设立。前者负责更新数据库，而后者负责技术方面以及数据安全与保护的实施。NHCPD将与医疗保健、公共卫生和健康保险领域的其他几个现有应用程序相互链接。几个重要国家机构和专业协会是该数据库的用户，从而整合了斯洛文尼亚医疗保健系统的各个方面。
在斯洛文尼亚建立一个经过全面修订的医疗服务提供者数据库是开发统一综合信息系统的重要一步，该系统将支持国家层面的高层决策过程。
