A new rabbit experimental model was developed in order to study the role of the lymph system in the pathogenesis of diphtheritic myocarditis. We injected the diphtheritic toxin into the connective tissue (tela cellularis) of the anterior mediastinum. (It inevitably drains from there to the lymph vessels of the heart.) As a result, typical Diphtheritic Myocarditis along with the severe lesion of the regional lymph nodes of the heart was induced.
