Abstract

Correlations between EEG-alterations and administration of 5-HT and 5-HTP in man are described. Age-dependence can be observed. Successful acupuncture produces EEG-alterations especially in younger patients as seen after exogene administration of 5-HT respectively 5-HTP i.v. Since biochemical indications for an increased 5-HT turnover during acupuncture of several acupuncture-points are evident further investigations should be carried out to enable reliable correlations.
