The insertion of the annulus fibrosus and of the perivertebral ligaments into the lumbar vertebral body is studied by histology and microradiography, in post-mortem human material from 0 to 34 years of age. The annulus lamellosus is attached to the edge ring, whose origin is endochondral, and ends in a calcified cartilage. The perivertebral ligaments are fixed to the cortex, that derives from those ligaments; they join the vertebral body via bundle bone.
