Reference is made to the medical assistance in Gabrovo during the epic Shipka battles of the Liberation war (1877-1878). With the common efforts of the Russian military medical personnel and of the population of Gabrovo, medical aid was organized and secured for the Russian soldiers, Bulgarian volunteers as well as for the refugees and local population.
