[More professional hospital management and the involvement of healthcare professionals: a pressing need].

This article examines the changes that are taking place in the public hospitals of Spain and their transformation from an administrative model to managerial one, in which the professionalism of the managers and the involvement of the professionals in efficient management techniques have become a pressing need. The introduction of new organizational methods, specially in clinical management, and the development of training programs and internal promotional systems or professional career will be essential in order to achieve this transformation.
