The in vitro activity of piperacillin, a new semisynthetic penicillin was compared with the inhibitory effect of other broad-spectrum penicillins and beta-lactamase stable cephalosporins. The examination was carried out by agar diffusion test with 1699 gram-negative strains. The antibacterial activity of piperacillin was generally superior to that of the other penicillins. Less than one per cent. of pseudomonas aeruginosa strains tested was resistant against piperacillin. Only klebsiella spp. showed a higher sensitivity against cefoxitin and cefuroxime.
将新型半合成青霉素哌拉西林的体外活性与其他广谱青霉素和β-内酰胺酶稳定的头孢菌素的抑菌效果进行了比较。采用琼脂扩散试验对1699株革兰氏阴性菌进行了检测。哌拉西林的抗菌活性总体上优于其他青霉素。所检测的铜绿假单胞菌菌株中，对哌拉西林耐药的不到1%。只有克雷伯菌属对头孢西丁和头孢呋辛表现出更高的敏感性。
