Abstract

PURPOSE

To retrospectively evaluate the incidence of neodymium: YAG (ND:YAG) laser capsulotomies for posterior capsule opacification (PCO) seen with hydrophobic and hydrophilic acrylic intraocular lens implants 18 months after surgery.

METHODS

One hundred and five eyes that had phacoemulsification with a continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis and implantation of either a hydrophobic or a hydrophilic acrylic posterior chamber IOL were evaluated in order to assess the incidence of PCO. Fifty-six eyes received a hydrophobic IOL (Acrysof-Alcon) and forty-nine eyes received a hydrophilic IOL (Galand-Visional). A standardized surgical protocol was performed by a single surgeon. All surgical complications were excluded and all patients had standardized postoperative medication and follow-up.

RESULTS

With an average follow-up of 18 months in both groups, the incidence of posterior Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for PCO was 8.9% in the hydrophobic group and 24.4% in the hydrophilic group, respectively (p = 0.03).

CONCLUSION

Intraocular lenses made from hydrophobic acrylic material are associated with a significantly reduced rate of Nd:YAG laser capsulotomies as compared with intraocular lenses made from hydrophilic acrylic material.

目的

方法

评估105只接受连续环形撕囊白内障超声乳化术并植入疏水性或亲水性丙烯酸后房型人工晶状体的眼睛,以评估PCO的发生率。56只眼睛接受了疏水性人工晶状体(爱尔康Acrysof),49只眼睛接受了亲水性人工晶状体(眼力健Galand)。由单一外科医生执行标准化手术方案。排除所有手术并发症,所有患者术后均接受标准化药物治疗和随访。

结果

两组平均随访18个月,疏水性人工晶状体组Nd:YAG激光后囊切开术治疗PCO的发生率分别为8.9%,亲水性人工晶状体组为24.4%(p = 0.03)。

结论

与亲水性丙烯酸材料制成的人工晶状体相比,疏水性丙烯酸材料制成的人工晶状体Nd:YAG激光后囊切开术的发生率显著降低。
