Abstract

PURPOSE

To investigate the effect of Perfluorohexyloctane (F6H8) on corneal endothelial cells(CEC) of rabbit eyes.

METHODS

Fifteen New Zealand white rabbits were divided into two groups: experimental group(F6H8) and control group(BSS). All rabbits underwent anterior chamber injection of 0.15 ml F6H8 or BSS. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy and corneal endothelium photography were performed pre-operatively and postoperatively. Histopathological examination and Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) were done after the rabbits were sacrificed.

RESULTS

All the corneas were clear. Since 4 weeks after operation, the endothelial cells were markedly irregular in size and shape and the number of endothelial cells was markedly decreased. Multilayered retrocorneal membranes(RCM) grew gradually 2 weeks after surgery. Vacuolar degeneration was seen in some endothelial cells. Nuclear degeneration and edema of plasma were seen in TEM.

CONCLUSION

Corneal endothelial cell degenerated after contacting with F6H8 for 2-4 weeks. As a silicone solvent, it should be removed completely after injection. We don't recommend it to be used as a new intraocular temponade.

目的

研究全氟己基辛烷(F6H8)对兔眼角膜内皮细胞(CEC)的影响。

方法

将15只新西兰白兔分为两组:实验组(F6H8)和对照组(平衡盐溶液,BSS)。所有兔子均行前房注射0.15 ml F6H8或BSS。术前及术后行裂隙灯生物显微镜检查及角膜内皮照相。兔子处死后进行组织病理学检查及透射电子显微镜(TEM)检查。

结果

所有角膜均保持透明。术后4周起,内皮细胞大小和形状明显不规则,内皮细胞数量明显减少。术后2周起后弹力层膜(RCM)逐渐生长增厚。部分内皮细胞可见空泡变性。TEM检查可见细胞核变性及细胞质水肿。

结论

角膜内皮细胞与F6H8接触2 - 4周后发生变性。作为一种硅油溶剂,注射后应彻底清除。不推荐将其用作新型眼内填充剂。
