Experience with a new clinical sign for proper Verres needle placement is reported. Although the use of one or more tests to confirm accurate needle position have become standard, most complications associated with laparoscopy still result from inaccurate or extraperitoneal needle placement. This new sign, when present, has proven completely reliable and should aid laparoscopists in reducing the incidence of needle complications.
