Acute and chronic knee dysfunction is a common clinical problem faced by physicians treating patients with musculoskeletal disorders. While standard roentgenograms provide most of the information needed to assess these disorders, the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is rapidly increasing in the diagnostic evaluation of soft-tissue, ligament, tendon, and osseous abnormalities. This article focuses on the role of MRI in the evaluation of disorders of the knee.
