Abstract

The value of the method of immune-adherence in studying by direct means the role of cation co-factors in human complement activation is shown. Clear evidence for the specificity of the Ca and Mg requirements is presented. Co partially replaced Mg, but other divalent cations tested did not replace either Ca or Mg. The optimal concentrations of cations useful in the titrations of human complement by immune-adherence are suggested to be 0.0001 M Ca and 0.001 M Mg.
