In chick embryo fibroblasts treated in vitro with adriamycin, the mitotic activity is strongly depressed, the nucleoli are altered, nucleolar RNA synthesis is inhibited and the RNA content is lowered. These effects can be concomitantly and spontaneously reversible, but the mitotic activity does not resume.
