The genogram: a strategy for assessment.

One of the strongest components of the role of the pediatric nurse practitioner (PNP) is that of assessing pediatric clients and their families. Many tools have been developed to assist the PNP in assessing family relationships and dynamics to formulate plans of care that promote physical and mental health. This article explores the use of the genogram as a tool for successful family assessment. A case study is presented to guide the PNP to incorporate the technique into the practice setting.
