Collecting duct carcinoma (Bellini) of the kidney is a rare histological type of renal cell carcinoma (1%) with distinctive clinical and histopathological features. It is associated with aggressive behavior and a poor prognosis.
We describe the clinical and immunohistochemical features of a new case of collecting duct carcinoma and discuss the radiological findings and therapeutic aspects.
Collecting duct carcinoma is associated with aggressive behavior and a poor prognosis. The imaging features (US and CT) suggest the diagnosis. The immunohistochemical characteristics of the distal tubular epithelium aid the differential diagnosis between renal tumours. Percutaneous biopsy with a Tru-cut needle can be useful for pathological diagnosis. Management is currently restricted to radical nephrectomy, and chemotherapy or immunotherapy may offer only limited benefits.
