Abstract

There is no question that for the representation of the pericardium and the myocardium, as well as the determination of the left ventricular mass/volume quotient, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging have advantages over other image procedures. However, they can replace neither echocardiography nor coronary angiography or nuclear medicine myocardial perfusion techniques. CT and MRI are indicated for all cardiac investigations in which an accurate knowledge of the peri-epicardial and myocardial morphology and of the mass/volume quotients is used to simplify the diagnosis and aid the therapeutic decision-making process.
