The technique and sites of blood sampling in the Herman's tortoise (Testudo hermanni hermanni) are explained. Advantages and disadvantages of each site (Vena coccygealis dorsali, Vena ulnaris) are discussed in comparison to cardiac puncture and clipping a nail. The diagnostic importance of blood examination is shown. Normal values of important blood parameters in clinically healthy animals (n = 17) are given, determined by a dry chemistry system (Kodak Ektachem).
