One hundred seventy two persons (300 eyes) with various degree of advancement of glaucomatous changes of the optic nerve were examined at the start of the treatment and after 1, 5 and 10 years. It was detected that in the eyes with a nearly full cupping of the optic disc the deterioration of the visual acuity and the advancement of field changes occurred much more frequently than in eyes with a small lesion of the nerve, as well in the eyes treated conservatively as in those treated surgically.
