We report a case of a 43-year-old woman, gravida 4, para 3, diagnosed with umbilical cord prolapse for more than three hours. Due to severe variable decelerations and fetal bradycardia, after counseling the patient decided to deliver by cesarean section. The infant, a 800-g male, spent 3 months in neonatal intensive care unit. At the ten-month follow-up examination he was neurologically intact, with no long-term complications secondary to the cord prolapse.
