To determine the effects of synthetic bone glass particulate (BG) on the fibrovascular ingrowth that occurs in porous polyethylene orbital implants (PP).
Forty-eight rabbits were divided into 4 groups, according to the different surgical techniques and implanted materials used. Group 1 was enucleated and implanted with PP, group 2 underwent evisceration and was implanted with PP, group 3 was enucleated and implanted with BG, and group 4 underwent evisceration and was implanted with BG. All of the implants in each group were histologically assessed at postoperative weeks 1, 2, 4, and 8.
There was no statistically significant difference with regard to fibrovascular ingrowth in the 4 groups. A greater number of vessels per unit area and mature fibrous tissue were found in the outermost zone for a longer time after implantation, but we found no statistically significant differences among the 4 groups.
We conclude that inclusion of synthetic bone glass particulate did not result in any significant increases in the rates of fibrovascular ingrowth in porous polyethylene orbital implants in rabbits.

根据所采用的不同手术技术和植入材料,将48只兔子分为4组。第1组行眼球摘除术并植入PP,第2组行眼内容剜除术并植入PP,第3组行眼球摘除术并植入BG,第4组行眼内容剜除术并植入BG。每组所有植入物均在术后第1、2、4和8周进行组织学评估。
4组在纤维血管向内生长方面无统计学显著差异。植入后较长时间内在最外层区域发现单位面积内血管数量更多且有成熟纤维组织,但4组之间未发现统计学显著差异。
我们得出结论,在兔多孔聚乙烯眼眶植入物中加入合成骨玻璃颗粒不会导致纤维血管向内生长速率有任何显著增加。
