A series of 22 patients with Stage I and II breast cancer treated from March 1958 to December 1983 by conservative surgery plus definitive radiotherapy is presented. All patients had tumorectomy or segmental mastectomy with or without axillary dissection followed by radical radiotherapy to the breast, chest wall, axillary, supraclavicular and internal mammary chains. The relapse rate in the breast was 4.55%, axillary node 9% and distant sites 18.18%. The 5-, 10- and 15-year actuarial survival rates were 78.75%, 72.69% and 46.73%, respectively. The data presented show that conservative surgery plus definitive radiotherapy is as effective as the conventional radical mastectomy but with much better cosmetic results.
本文报告了1958年3月至1983年12月期间接受保守手术加根治性放疗治疗的22例I期和II期乳腺癌患者。所有患者均接受了肿瘤切除术或区段乳房切除术，伴或不伴腋窝清扫，随后对乳房、胸壁、腋窝、锁骨上和内乳链进行根治性放疗。乳房复发率为4.55%，腋窝淋巴结复发率为9%，远处转移率为18.18%。5年、10年和15年的精算生存率分别为78.75%、72.69%和46.73%。所呈现的数据表明，保守手术加根治性放疗与传统根治性乳房切除术同样有效，但美容效果要好得多。
