Childhood tuberculosis: public health aspects.

Contact with smear positive tuberculosis is a serious risk for all children but especially those in minority ethnic groups. Control measures are determined by the results of Heaf testing and chest X-ray, and include the administration of BCG, chemoprophylaxis, or full anti-tuberculous chemotherapy. Neonatal vaccination in high risk ethnic groups and screening of child immigrants are also recommended.
