The cases of two patients with ulcerative colitis are described who developed pulmonary infiltrates during the early months of treatment with sulphasalazine. The first patient had a hypersensitivity pneumonitis, which was confirmed by challenge. Recovery was complete. The second patient developed a fibrosing alveolitis type reaction, with fatal outcome.
