The main features of the reaction of nucleolar components to a simple hypotonic shock are described. In place of nucleoli, only fibrillar complexes remain. Such preservation provides another morphological proof of the hypothesis of fibrillar complexes as morphological-functional units in active nucleoli. Moreover, this method can become a good tool for further study of nucleolus-organizing regions.
