[Insulin resistance. A syndrome responsible for various cardiovascular diseases].

The X-syndrome described by G. M. Reaven comprises several risk factors, among them obesity. Type II diabetes, hypertension and certain dyslipidemias. The frequent association of these conditions is due to insulin-resistance and hyperinsulinism. The pathophysiology of this syndrome and the possibilities for its treatment are reviewed.
