To investigate the expression of Survivin, one of inhibitors of apoptosis proteins(IAPs) in tongue squamous cell carcinoma(TSCC), and discuss its clinical significance.
Immunohistochemical staining was employed to detect the expression of Survivin in 10 normal lingual mucosal membranes, 13 highly differentiated SCCs,20 medium-differentiated SCCs and 12 low-differentiated SCCs. Data was analyzed with SPSS13 software package for nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test.
The positive staining rate of Survivin in TSCC was 68.9%, and significantly higher than that in normal control group (P<0.01). Overexpression of Survivin was related to the pathological grade, TNM stage (P<0.05) and closely to lymph node metastasis of TSCC (P<0.01).
The positive staining of Survivin increased in different grades of TSCC, and Survivin is relative to carcinogenesis, progression and prognosis of TSCC. It may be a new clinical therapeutic target for TSCC.
