The particular task of the family doctor is to provide the patient with comprehensive information about his forthcoming operation, to ensure that his medication is appropriately adapted in good time, and to clarify in advance the social and postoperative situation with regard to the nursing care possibly needed by the patient. The anesthesia- and surgery-specific examinations of these patients are usually performed in the hospital concerned.
