Pancreatic polypeptide (HPP) producing cells were detected in 23 out of 36 endocrine tumours of the pancreas. In all tumours shown to be producing two hormones it was possible to demonstrate two different cell types by immunocytochemistry and/or electron microscopy. The D1 cell was identified as the source of HPP in tumours.
