Deep brain stimulation: current and emerging indications.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been used to treat a number of neurological and psychiatric diseases. Initially applied to chronic pain, DBS today is routinely used to treat movement disorders, predominantly Parkinson's Disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. Recent studies have demonstrated potential for treating depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
