BACKGROUND/AIMS: Helicobacter pylori that resides in the gastric mucus layer is the major etiological factor in gastritis, gastric ulcers and carcinomas. Among others, carbohydrate structures of MUC 1 mucin are also considered by some authors as being important in the mechanism of infection. The main aim of our study was to establish whether Helicobacter pylori treatment has any influence on the level of soluble form of MUC 1 mucin in gastric juice.
We examined two groups of Helicobacter pylori infected patients. The first group was treated with omeprazole (at the end of the therapy the bacterium was still present). The second group was treated with omeprazole and antibiotics, and the bacterium eradication was confirmed. MUC 1 mucin was determined by Western blotting technique.
Before the therapy, the level of MUC 1 was found to be low in almost all cases, while at the end of the treatment in both groups of patients an increase of MUC 1 mucin was observed.
Our results can confirm the thesis that Helicobacter pylori inhibits the expression of MUC 1 mucin on cell membranes.
背景/目的:存在于胃黏液层的幽门螺杆菌是胃炎、胃溃疡和胃癌的主要病因。此外,一些作者认为MUC 1黏蛋白的碳水化合物结构在感染机制中也很重要。我们研究的主要目的是确定幽门螺杆菌治疗是否对胃液中可溶性MUC 1黏蛋白水平有任何影响。
我们检查了两组幽门螺杆菌感染患者。第一组用奥美拉唑治疗(治疗结束时细菌仍存在)。第二组用奥美拉唑和抗生素治疗,细菌根除得到证实。通过蛋白质印迹技术测定MUC 1黏蛋白。
治疗前,几乎所有病例中MUC 1水平都很低,而两组患者治疗结束时均观察到MUC 1黏蛋白增加。
我们的结果可以证实幽门螺杆菌抑制细胞膜上MUC 1黏蛋白表达这一论点。
