Urinary reservoirs constructed from the ileocecal segment conform generally to the principles of an ideal bladder substitute. They have psychological and functional advantages for selected patients who require urinary diversion. The reservoir can easily be placed in the pelvis attached to the urethra. Alternatively, an extremely efficient efferent continence mechanism that is both easy to catheterize and to construct can be made from tapered terminal ileum and an intact ileocecal valve.
