A decreasing birthrate, rising numbers of women pursuing careers, work pressures, tensions between parents and children, and a weakening in traditional filial piety mores have changed Taiwanese society in recent years. Such changes may result in poorer levels of family care. The personal ideas of children regarding filial piety determine their future willingness to take care of elderly parents. Recently, concepts associated with filial piety have shifted from a focus on authoritative filial piety to one on reciprocal filial piety. Thus, good or poor interactions between parents and children will impact on the willingness of children to take care of their parents. When children show a reduced level of filial piety than expected, they lower their parents' hopes, which may cause uncertainty and a fear of abandonment among elderly family members. Moreover, such may also give rise to abuse from family caregivers. Therefore, those involved in the care of the elderly should evaluate the relationship between a family and its elderly members and, if the family needs more care support, resources should be provided. The result will be better overall, more holistic care of the elderly. In the future, a study in the community that examines the relationship between children's concepts of filial piety and family care of the elderly is suggested. The results of such may be used in education.
近年来，出生率下降、职业女性数量增加、工作压力、亲子关系紧张以及传统孝道观念的弱化改变了台湾社会。这些变化可能导致家庭照料水平下降。子女对孝道的个人观念决定了他们未来照顾年迈父母的意愿。近来，与孝道相关的观念已从注重权威孝道转向注重互惠孝道。因此，父母与子女之间良好或糟糕的互动会影响子女照顾父母的意愿。当子女表现出的孝顺程度低于预期时，会降低父母的期望，这可能导致老年家庭成员产生不确定感和被遗弃的恐惧。此外，这也可能引发家庭照料者的虐待行为。因此，参与老年人照料工作的人员应评估家庭与老年成员之间的关系，如果家庭需要更多照料支持，就应提供资源。这样做的结果将是对老年人进行更好、更全面的照料。未来，建议在社区开展一项研究，考察子女孝道观念与老年人家庭照料之间的关系。研究结果可用于教育。
