In summary, obtaining a comprehensive patient history is a critical part of the diagnostic and risk stratification process of the patient with cardiac disease undergoing non-cardiac surgery. Many of the factors associated with perioperative cardiac morbidity are treatable and early and aggressive management appears to have beneficial effects on morbidity and mortality rates.
