Increasing demand for baccalaureate nursing education for registered nurses delivered by audio teleconferencing creates many challenges in course design and delivery for nurse educators. In this paper, the strengths and limitations of contract learning as a means of increasing student involvement are discussed from the perspectives of both student and teacher, in light of both adult learning theory and the unique demands of distance education.
