Risk and benefit of gold therapy were reviewed in patients with juvenile chronic arthritis. During a 6-month period, gold therapy was shown to be effective in 8 of 16 patients, and there has been improvement in the laboratory and clinical findings. Side effects were noticed in 5 cases, but in only one patient gold therapy had to be stopped due to alopecia areata. It is concluded that gold salts beneficially alter the course of the disease of children with juvenile chronic arthritis, with no more risk than in adults.
对青少年慢性关节炎患者金疗法的风险和益处进行了回顾。在6个月的时间里，16例患者中有8例金疗法显示有效，实验室检查和临床症状均有改善。5例出现了副作用，但只有1例患者因斑秃不得不停止金疗法。得出的结论是，金盐可有益地改变青少年慢性关节炎患儿的病程，风险并不高于成人。
