[Varicella vaccination].

Basing of a review of the world literature the problems of the live attenuated varicella vaccine are presented. The vaccine is well tolerated and immunogenic. Side effects are unimportant. The vaccination is associated with a decrease of the chickenpox attack rate following an intensive exposure to varicella-zoster virus conferring about 80% protection in immunocompromised children over a period of 3-5 years. The vaccination provide an excellent protection against severe varicella in children with acute lymphocytic leukemia who remain on remission as well as in children with solid tumors. The incidence rate of zoster following vaccination is not higher than following natural varicella infection.
