Abstract

The effects of subiculum stimulation on the character of spontaneous and evoked activity of the hypothalamic supraoptic neurons orthodromically activated by neurohypophyseal stalk stimulation, involved either phasic excitatory reactions or suppression on evoked activity, the sign of reaction depending on the blood plasma osmolality. The mean value of the excitatory reactions latency was 20.2 +/- 2.6 msec. The latency of the inhibition varied between 20 and 35 msec in different cells, the inhibition duration being 15 to 50 msec. Peculiarities of this afferent input to the supraoptic area are discussed.
