Experiments with electric stimulation of the hypophyseal stalk and hippocampal formation revealed a great significance of the direct inhibitory control of the neurosecretory unit activity. Various types and mechanisms of primary inhibitory responses and postactivation [correction of pastactivafahory] inhibitory processes, as well as their role in the activity of neurosecretory cells and other neurons of the supraoptic area, are discussed.
