The associations between participative management and nurse absenteeism, and between work autonomy and nurse turnover, are found to be more negative in nursing than in hospital administration publications. These differences are congruent with what may be different stances of nursing and hospital administration on the subject of nurse decision-making influence. Implications of the apparent discrepancy between the nursing and hospital literatures are discussed.
