This study aimed to assess the efficacy and effect of locally-delivered doxycycline microspheres with scaling and root planing in periodontal pocket therapy and on Porphyromonas gingivalis, respectively.
Twenty sites with a probing pocket depth of 4-6 mm were divided into two groups: a control group consisting of scaling and root planing, with one application of doxycycline microspheres only at baseline, and a test group consisting of scaling and root planing, with an application of doxycycline microspheres at baseline and 1 and 3 months. Clinical readings included the plaque index, gingival index, probing pocket depth, and relative attachment level. Rapid polymerase chain reaction method was used for the detection of P. gingivalis.
A statistically-significant reduction in probing pocket depth and attachment gain was found in both groups; the test group showed a significant reduction in probing pocket depth and attachment gain compared with the control at 3 and 6 months. P. gingivalis cell count in the test group was significantly reduced at all the time periods, except from 1 to 3 months.
Local drug delivery of doxycycline microspheres significantly improved the treatment outcomes in periodontal pocket therapy and reduced P. gingivalis in the periodontal pocket.
本研究旨在分别评估局部递送强力霉素微球联合龈下刮治及根面平整术在牙周袋治疗中的疗效及对牙龈卟啉单胞菌的作用。
将20个探诊牙周袋深度为4 - 6毫米的部位分为两组:对照组采用龈下刮治及根面平整术,仅在基线时应用一次强力霉素微球;试验组采用龈下刮治及根面平整术,在基线、1个月及3个月时应用强力霉素微球。临床指标包括菌斑指数、牙龈指数、探诊牙周袋深度及相对附着水平。采用快速聚合酶链反应法检测牙龈卟啉单胞菌。
两组的探诊牙周袋深度及附着获得均有统计学意义的降低;试验组在3个月和6个月时,探诊牙周袋深度及附着获得的降低幅度与对照组相比有显著差异。试验组中牙龈卟啉单胞菌细胞计数在所有时间段均显著降低,但1至3个月除外。
局部递送强力霉素微球显著改善了牙周袋治疗的效果,并减少了牙周袋内的牙龈卟啉单胞菌。
