Chronic kidney disease is defined by a reduced GFR (< 60 mL/min/1,73 m2) and/or the presence markers of renal injury for > or = 3 months. Chronic kidney disease indicates and increased risk of both end stage renal disease and cardiovascular mortality. The future challenge is to build a definition that would take into account patients age, rate of GFR decline and proteinuria in order to better delineate the fate of patients with chronic kidney disease, and to better differenciate physiological and pathological reduction in GFR.
慢性肾脏病的定义为肾小球滤过率降低（<60 ml/min/1.73 m²）和/或存在肾脏损伤标志物达3个月及以上。慢性肾脏病表明终末期肾病和心血管死亡风险增加。未来的挑战是构建一个能考虑患者年龄、肾小球滤过率下降速率和蛋白尿情况的定义，以便更好地描绘慢性肾脏病患者的预后，并更好地区分肾小球滤过率的生理性和病理性降低。
