Two patients admitted for decompensated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease developed arterial hypotension requiring the prolonged infusion of dopamine. They had no sign of acute circulatory failure and their blood lactate levels were normal. In the two patients, the correction of unsuspected hypocalcemia allowed the rapid discontinuation of the dopamine infusion.
