Although recent advances in chemotherapy have led to improvement of QOL and prolonged survival for patients with advanced cancer, we often cannot continue treatments because of adverse events, even though the drug is effective. To obtain the maximum effect from chemotherapy, it is important to control the nausea and vomiting associated with it using an effective antiemetic therapy. In Japan, guidelines for the proper use of antimetics were announced in May 2010 by the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology, supported by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. Here, we introduce outline of this guideline for antimetics.
