The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cu(C(9)H(10)N(3)O(3))Cl], contains two independent mol-ecules with similar structures. The Cu(II) cation is N,O,O'-chelated by the deprotonated Schiff base ligand and is further coordinated by a Cl(-) anion in a distorted ClNO(2) square-planar geometry. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯O and N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional network parallel to [100].
