The purpose was to learn if fieldwork supervisors have greater expectations of students beginning Level II fieldwork compared to five years ago and how these compared to student expectations. Supervision was examined.
Data were obtained through questionnaires from 81 fieldwork supervisors and 29 students doing second fieldwork rotations.
Supervisors have higher expectations of students. Supervisor and student expectations agreed. Demands of health care environments and new educational requirements influenced these changes. Supervisors still use traditional supervisory techniques.
Findings give insight into expectations of current students and help universities develop programs that better prepare students for fieldwork.
