Child health associates can be fully prepared to competently diagnose and treat 90% of ambulatory pediatric patients five years after completion of high school at a cost of approximately one-fourth the expense of educating a pediatrician to perform the same tasks and functions. A rational health planning policy should include the extensive utilization of child health associates as primary health care providers for children.
