Abstract
An array of data exists in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus which strong supports a role for interferon (IFN) in the disease process. The mechanism(s) which lead to an elevation of serum IFN in patients with SLE is unclear. IFN abnormalities may also contribute to a defect in natural killer function.
