The influence of bacteria and supernatants, obtained from the cultures of neutrophils preincubated with these bacteria, on the chemotaxis of neutrophils has been studied. Neutrophils preincubated with bacteria acquire the capacity for specific chemotactic deactivation in response to the contact with the culture of the same bacteria. During the phagocytosis of bacteria neutrophils secrete factors selectively attracting only those neutrophils which have been activated by bacteria of the same species.
